About Albert Academy

Albert Academy was founded by Albert — known to his Chinese students as 小波老师, Teacher Xiaobo. For over a decade, he has taught mathematics to students from primary school through to A-Levels, first across China and now in Singapore.

His students don’t come because their parents pushed them to. They come because they want to. Many of their parents are themselves university professors — of mathematics, of chemistry, of education — who chose Albert because they recognised something in his teaching they couldn’t find elsewhere.

That something is hard to name in one sentence, but it runs through everything we do.

What Albert Academy is built on

We don’t teach students to memorise procedures. We teach them to see the structure underneath.

We don’t rush them past their mistakes. We treat the mistake as the moment learning actually begins.

We don’t pretend mathematics is a closed technical world. We show students that the logic of mathematics is the logic they already use, every day, when they argue with a friend or notice when something doesn’t add up — only written out, more carefully, more visibly.

We don’t measure a good lesson by how much was covered. We measure it by whether a student left the room thinking differently than when they came in.

These are the convictions Albert Academy is built on. They came from many years of watching what works in a classroom and what doesn’t — many more years of watching what doesn’t, honestly, than what does.

Who we are for

Most students who study with us fall into one of two groups.

The first are families in Singapore who have decided that ordinary tuition is not enough. Their child may be doing fine on tests but is becoming the kind of student who answers questions without thinking — who knows how to follow steps but not how to find his own when the steps run out. These parents come to us not to push the grade higher, but to put thinking back into the centre of their child’s learning.

The second are international families — many from China, but also from Vietnam, Indonesia, India, and elsewhere — preparing their children to enter Singapore’s school system, often through the AEIS examination. For these families, Albert Academy offers something rare: rigorous, English-medium preparation for Singapore education, taught by someone who has spent a decade understanding how Chinese-speaking students think and where they get stuck.

Both groups, in the end, want the same thing — a child who can think for himself, work through difficulty, and meet new problems without panicking.

Online by design

Albert Academy is online from the start. We teach students in Singapore and around the world from a single virtual classroom. Lessons are live and interactive, recorded for review, and structured so that families preparing to relocate to Singapore can begin learning before they arrive.

Online is not a fallback for us. It is how we reach the families we are built to serve.

The name

We are sometimes asked what Albert stands for.

It stands for nothing more than the founder’s name. We chose not to invent a story for it. The brand is named after the person who teaches.


At a moment AI is rewriting learning.

Albert Academy was founded at a moment when AI is rewriting what learning means. We have stepped into that change rather than around it. Our teaching uses AI, learns from AI, builds with AI — and we are now building AI of our own, learning systems that carry our way of teaching into a form a student can study with every day, in every subject.

What we hold on to, in the middle of this, is a clear sense of what AI is for. AI multiplies what is already in the student. A child who has learned to think, to express, to question, to recognise a real answer from one that only sounds real — for that child, AI is the most powerful instrument education has ever had. A child who has not yet built that interior gets the same instrument, and uses it to produce work that looks excellent and means nothing. The tool is the same. The student is the difference.

So we do both things at once. We teach the interior — clear thinking, honest expression, judgment, taste. And we teach the use — how to think with these tools, how to learn faster and deeper because of them, how to stay the author of work that AI is helping to do. This is what Albert Academy was founded to do, and it is the direction everything we build will continue to go.
